Trail running of the Ardèche Canyon
It will be our sixth edition next May, 27th 2012. Its reveals, how lazy we've been for the the past years in making efforts to propose some lines of presentation in a sort of acceptable English language.
We apologize for the delay. And will remain as short as possible in this purpose.
The area around St-Martin-d'Ardèche, exactly at the south-eastern entrance of the canyon of the Ardèche river, belongs to the Mediterranean area. The tracks start from the main (only...) place in the small village at river level, cross the hanging bridge and run first through vineyards or olive trees to the neighbour, medieval village of Aiguèze. From there, runners enter the local woods –the « garrigue » described as « discontinuous bushy associations of the Mediterranean calcareous plateaus, often composed of kermes oak, box, pine, plus lavender, thyme and white cistus ». Not everywhere so much discontinuous - paths or single-tracks climb up und down dry valleys, broken stone and rock screes, with some lovely points of view to the river Ardèche in the heart of its National Natural Reserve a few 300 meter lower, and finally reach down the river side and cross it. After some more kilometers among the rocks or pebbles along the river, up and down again through the « garrigue », runners reach again St-Martin-d'Ardèche after either 10, 23 or 41 km. Wouldn't it be obviously marvelous to come and see and run here ?

Traillauf der Ardèche-Schlucht
Zum sechsten Mal laden wir Läufer an, über und in der Schlucht der Ardèche unsere mediterrane Gegend zu geniessen... Zum ersten Mal erlauben wir uns, einige Zeilen auf deutsch hier einzusetzen. Kurz erzählt : es geschieht am 27. Mai 2012. Vom Hauptplatz des Dorfs erreichen Sie über den Fluß durch Wein- oder Olivenfeldern das mittelalterliche Nachbardorf Aiguèze. Und von da aus läuft man durch das Naturschutzgebiet der Schlucht, also die Garrigue. Eine « offene mediterrane Strauchheidenformation auf flachgründigen Böden », lässt sich auf geologischen Zeilen lesen - auf kalkreichen Böden unter Kermes-Eichen, Buchsbäumen, Kiefern, mit verschiedenen Lavendelarten, Thymian. Doch so flach mag es den Rennern etwas unbetreffend erscheinen : talauf, talab, manchmal mit schönem Hinblick hinab (etwa 300m tiefer), wo die Ardèche fliesst, dann wird das Ufer erreicht, und es wird wieder entweder am Fluß entlang oder wieder auf und ab durch die Strauchheidenformationen gelaufen... Schliesslich erreicht man St-Martin-d'Ardèche wieder – mit der Statue des Heiligen unter den Platanen. Hoffentlich bleibt die arge Darstellung einladend.
